Ümit Akkaya graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Law in 1997 and holds a Master’s degree in Private Law Department from Istanbul University Institute of Social Sciences. He is currently pursuing his doctorate studies at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University, Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Islamic Economics and International Finance.
Ümit Akkaya has been practicing as a lawyer since 1998 and joined our Partnership in 2003. He became a partner in 2007 and is currently a member of the Board of Directors.
Within the scope of legal consultancy services, Ümit Akkaya provides legal services to our Partnership’s clients in the fields of interest-free finance, banking, international commercial and financial transactions and capital markets. In this context, he provides legal consultancy services in the fields such as written and oral consultancy, preparation and review of contracts, Sukuk issuances, project financings, loan structuring, syndications, capital market and precious metal transactions carried out at home and abroad, and the regulation of national and international financing projects in accordance with current legislation and interest-free finance principles. Ümit Akkaya has been working as an expert in the field of Sukuk issuances for many years. He also advises clients on company incorporations, general assemblies, mergers and acquisitions. Ümit Akkaya also contributes to the follow-up and evaluation of legislative developments in the field of banking and finance within the framework of his duties in the Legal Working Groups of the Participation Banks Association of Türkiye.
Ümit Akkaya is a mediator registered with the Mediation Department of the Ministry of Justice
Ümit Akkaya took part in the writing of the legislation, supervision and legal infrastructure section of the first and important reference source for the sector, titled Living and Developing Participation Banking, published by the PBAT. Ümit Akkaya is fluent in English.
